People who made no contribution in freedom struggle want to push their own agenda, says Nitish Kumar

PATNA: Making a fresh attack on his former ally BJP, Bihar CM and JD(U)’s de facto leader Nitish Kumar on Friday said the people sitting in Delhi (Union government) want to push only their own agenda in education system through new technology, though they made no contribution in the country’s freedom struggles.

Addressing an event on birth anniversary of country’s first education minister Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Nitish asked the state’s education officials to feed all relevant information related to freedom struggle in the new system of teaching so that the new generations remain fully aware about the happenings during the freedom movement.

"Today, the people who are sitting in Delhi want to push only their own agenda in the education system despite the fact that they were not anyway related to the freedom struggle," the Bihar CM said while making a veiled attack on the BJP and RSS.

"Who killed Bapu?" Nitish asked from the audience, most of them school children, in an apparent attack on the RSS. And after taking a long pause, he asked the audience, "Please do not forget who killed Mahatma Gandhi."

Lauding the role of Maulana Azad in strengthening secular values in India soon after the Independence, Nitish – in another covert attack on the saffron party, said, "Some people often want to create conflicts among different communities on the like of Hindu-Muslim. If school children are imparted education about the ideals and visions of Mahatma Gandhi and Maulana Azad, there will be no atmosphere of conflicts in the state. it will create an atmosphere of brotherhood and religious harmony in the society."

The Nitish-led government has provided two books on Mahatma Gandhi and one on the life and teaching of Maulana Azad to all schoolchildren across the state. Referring to those three books, the CM asked the education officials to ensure regular teaching of chapters from these books in all government schools so that new generations become aware about Gandhi and Maulana Azad.
