People walk past me as if I am scum: My Wigan Pier Story

Dad-of-three Daniel Clements, 31, has been left homeless following a family crisis. He tells Maryam Qaiser how he is trying to get back on his feet.

I was born in Sheffield but around eight years ago I moved to Poole where I was happily settled with a girlfriend and our three children. We had a nice home and I worked as a binman.

But my life changed when my girlfriend, at the time, started taking drugs. She moved to Sheffield and I followed - to be closer to my children who are looked after by their granddad.

(Daily Mirror)

I didn't have anywhere to live - I just wanted to be close to my children - so I ended up homeless.

When you are living on the streets, people just pass you by - they think you are scum.

There needs to be more support for homeless people. There is just not enough help out there.

The charity Framework has been really supportive and sorted me out some accommodation for a short while.

It is harder to get work now than when I was a teenager in Sheffield. I recently passed a course which means I can look for labouring jobs.

Now I am looking at getting my own property and a job. I am a person who doesn't like to waste time, I just like to get on with things.
