Residents were told to keep their doors and windows shut as over 50 firefighters tackled a blaze for over four hours in Runcorn.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to the scene of a fire near a scrapyard Percival Lane in Runcorn at around 1.30pm on Thursday, where wooden and plastic pallets had caught fire and produced an inferno which covered an area around 60 square metres. Residents were asked to close their doors and windows while smoke plumes filled the air, while drivers were asked to avoid the area.
Smoke was visible from Frodsham and many emergency service vehicles descended on the scene. Ambulance and police attended the scene, while the fire service used several special appliances including an aerial ladder platform, the Scorpion high reach extending turret and a high volume pump.

The fire service stated at 4.42pm on Thursday that firefighters remained at the scene on Percival Lane but the fire had been brought under control and there was no longer a smoke plume, meaning that local residents were able to open their windows.
