Funding to help renovate the People’s Palace and Glasgow Green Winter Gardens could be approved this time around if the council presents a strong proposal.
An application for financial aid was previously submitted to the National Heritage Lottery Fund in October but was rejected despite receiving positive feedback.
The council was encouraged by Heritage officers to bid again in in the future.
At a full council meeting, Labour councillor Cecilia O’Lone asked the city convener for progress on funding applications for the Winter Garden Glasshouse. She wanted to know how many had been made and what stage they were at.
Councillor Kenny McLean said: “As expected, the Covid-19 pandemic saw a dramatic slow down of progress in relation to the progress however the early 2021 progress in relation to the survey for structural re-design work recommenced.
“Officers have been working to explore other funding options for the project. It is currently being considered as part of proposals which the council can put forward into up and coming Scottish and UK Government funds.
“These funds are targeted in economic recovery, regeneration and growth as part of the response and impact of Covid-19 on communities and cities.
“The project is now at a stage which will enable it to be a strong candidate for funding.”
Councillor O’Lone then asked for members to be kept in the loop with the project so they could inform their constituent.
She said: “I am very pleased to hear that there has been progress made in making the applications. I do think there should be more communication so we can be made aware of what’s happening.
“I would ask that a progress report may come before a future committee for discussion. That way as councillors we are not getting people asking us what is happening when we don’t have the answer.”
Councillor McLean agreed to bring updates to relevant meetings in the future.
