People's 'minds blown' after driver claims cup holders are made for little-known use

All drivers know what a struggle it can be to transport takeaway drinks when you are on the go. If you've only got a few, you can normally cope using the vehicle's cup holders, otherwise you've got to pass them to a passenger to hold.

But if you're driving alone and find yourself outnumbered, you'll have to leave them balanced on the passenger seat - and hope for the best. Not only could this prove distracting for drivers, but it is not ideal to risk spilling your drink before you get a chance to enjoy it. Luckily, there might be a solution.

A TikTok user has blown people's minds are sharing how he combats the problem - and his trick could be a game changer. Posting as @bogielopez89, Jacob Lopez shared the tip with thousands of amazed viewers.

His simple method involves using a cardboard drinks holder, in the style of those regularly handed out at drive-thru and takeaway restaurants. But instead of placing just one drink within the car's holder, as you might expect it to be used, he slots one of the tray's pockets into his car's inbuilt cup holder, before placing a drink within the pocket inside the holder.

In his video, he then takes away his hands and all three drinks remain upright, despite just the one appearing to have been secured in the car's holder. "Did you know these cup holders are made for this?" his voiceover asks.

And it is fair to say most people did not, based on the comments left on the video, which has racked up over 16 million views. The official @mcdonalds account replied: "i didn’t even know this."

Another viewer said: "My mind is blown." And a third added: "Definitely didn’t but this, this is a game changer."

However, people were quick to advise drivers take caution if they try out the tip. One person wrote: "LIES BECAUSE WHEN I TURNED AT THE LIGHT THEY FELL OVER!"

"I did that with my drink carrier and my Starbucks went flying," someone else claimed.

Commenters also reported that the trays don't fit in some vehicles. "Not for my car I already tried," said one person. Another found: "My lid gets in the way."

Nonetheless, many were still impressed by the man's inventive approach, even if the results were called into question.
