People rummaging through cars on street found with unexpected items in pockets

Two people have been arrested after they were caught trying car door handles and rummaging through vehicles.

The arrests took places around 2.30am this morning following reports of the activity in the Rainford Road and Stuart Road area of St Helens.

After Merseyside Police received the reports of people trying car door handles and rummaging through insecure vehicles, two offenders were arrested.

Among the items recovered from police were eight CD's, including Now 60s No.1s, Let It Be by the Beatles and The Best Of Jefferson Airplane.

A number of Motown CD's were also found and a knife was recovered from one of the suspects.

In a post on social media, St Helens Police said: "Last night at approximately 02:25hrs two offenders were arrested following reports of them trying car door handles and rummaging through insecure vehicles in the Rainford Road/Stuart Road area.

"If you believe you have also been a victim or have any information please contact us or speak to the PCSO's in your area this morning.

"A knife was also recovered from one of the suspects.

"These items have been recovered from the suspects, if they belong to you please reach out as soon as possible."

Many residents took to Facebook after hearing about the incident, with some finding humour in the items recovered. One person commented: "They need to learn some R.E.S.P.E.C.T!!!!" Another said: "Tell the crime officers from 1993 you’ve finally recovered them goods they was looking for from the HMV robbery and the driver of the getaway car (cortina) is now in custody." One person posted: "I don’t think anyone’s gonna come forward to admitting those Motown CD’s belong to them." And another said: "Someone broke into my car once, and actually left my CD collection, who doesn’t like a bit of Robbie Williams."
