People realise they're living in a town with 'no streets'

One Merseyside town has no "streets" - and it's a local quirk that's left residents confused.

Maghull is said to have no registered streets, with not a single road name in the town including the word 'street'.

Although there are many streets in the town by definition, there are none by name.

The reason for this local quirk is a mystery to residents.

According to geographic.org, there are closes, groves, roads, avenues and drives, but no streets in the entire of Maghull.

Paved roads called 'streets' have been in Britain since Roman times.

They form an integral part of cities and towns across the country, with High Streets and Main Streets housing the shops, pubs and cafés that are the lifeblood of communities.

Following a recent ECHO story, one person posted in a local Facebook group: "Recently read an article about Kirkby having no streets...

"Surely there are no 'streets' in Maghull either?

"Can anyone prove me wrong?"

This is when the ball dropped for many. One person commented: "Can't think of any....all Lanes, Drives and Avenues!"

Another person said: "Reckon you're right yano."

One man was quick to point out that Maghull has many streets, just not by name: "The word Street is a noun, proved wrong. Enjoy."
