People over 40 in the Cardiff area can call this number to book their vaccine

People over the age of 40 in Cardiff are being encouraged to call in order to book their Covid jab.

Last weekend the Welsh Government said they had managed to offer a first Covid jab to everyone over 50 and were moving on the the 40-49 bracket.

In a statement Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: "If you are aged 40+ and want to have your Covid-19 vaccination, please contact our booking line on 02921 841234 and we will book you into one of our centres.

"Please be patient when calling as the lines can become busy. Our booking line is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm."

However this does not apply to the entire health board area.

"If you live in the Western Vale, are aged 40-49 and registered at Cowbridge & Vale Practice, Llantwit Major and Coastal Vale Medical Practice, or Western Vale Family Practice, please wait for a letter from your GP," the statement added. You can find more information on this here.

The health board was quick to stress that this line is not for general advice on the safety of the AstraZenica jab.

What if I am not over 40 and want a jab?

If you are not yet eligible for a jab there is still a chance you may be able to get a vaccine quickly by signing up for a reserve list.

Most health boards are allowing younger people to sign up to be called at the last minute if there is a cancellation to prevent a jab going to waste.

You can find out how to get on the reserve list for your local health board here.
