People on the move: Top North East appointments and promotions

Newcastle law firm Muckle LLP has appointed Scott Cable to its growing real estate dispute resolution team.

Mr Cable, who has 15 years of experience in property disputes and joins Muckle as partner, will be working alongside partner and head of real estate dispute resolution Charlotte McMurchie, senior associate Jennifer Pearson, associate Sarah Barratt and solicitors Charlotte Dickinson and Matthew Brady.

He said: “When the opportunity came up to join Muckle, it was a chance I couldn’t turn down. Everyone I know speaks so highly of them, and as a team ranked top in its sector by Legal 500 UK, the quality of my new Real Estate Dispute Resolution colleagues is self-evident. Muckle is one of few firms in the North East to have a dedicated Real Estate Dispute Resolution department, so I’m excited to bring my expertise to the team and help to further expand the practice.”

David Head of Draeger Safety UK (Draeger Safety UK)

Medical and safety technology firm Draeger Safety UK has appointed David Head as head of safety marketing.

Mr Head, whose career in the sector spans 16 years, has worked with Dräger for eight years and was previously a senior marketing manager at the firm. The new role will see him lead UK marketing for the company’s range of technology and equipment, which includes portable breathing apparatus, gas detection systems and drug and alcohol testing and PPE equipment (PPE). It will also see him join the company’s commercial leadership team.

Mr Head said: “Dräger is one of the most highly-regarded global brands when it comes to workplace safety, and the knowledge, experience and expertise that exists within the business offers huge potential to grow brand awareness and market share here in the UK over the coming months and years. I’m delighted to have been appointed to this new role, and I’m excited about working with colleagues to achieve some of the ambitious plans we have to develop Dräger’s connected and digital safety offering.

Dan Renforth of Artech Lighting (Artech Lighting)

Artech Lighting has welcomed Daniel Renforth as its new regional sales manager.

Mr Renforth joins the firm’s Durham City head office with 11 years’ experience in the lighting industry, having worked in East Anglia, Yorkshire and nationally. Mr Renforth is returning to his roots for the role, having been born and bred in Gosforth and attending Northumbria University before work commitments saw him move to Manchester in 2016.

He said: “The market needs businesses like Artech Lighting that are agile, creative and embrace tech and innovation to not only improve the products it manufactures, but address issues like rising energy costs, reducing carbon output and using lighting to capture data. Our nimble approach and engineering dexterity are critical as we partner with customers to meet their net zero, product regeneration and circular economy aspirations.”

Amy Orange of Richard Reed Solicitors (Steve Coulthard)

Amy Orange has joined the family team at Richard Reed Solicitors after gaining a first-class law degree at the University of Sunderland and then further studying on the legal practice course and qualifying for a masters degree.

After gaining four years’ experience as a paralegal for a Newcastle law firm, she has returned to Sunderland. Her post as a newly-qualified solicitor will see her representing parents and other family members in all family court proceedings as part of a busy department at the Frederick Street practice.

She said: “I always wanted to work in an area of law where I felt I could do the most good. With the type of work we do, you are dealing with the most vulnerable people in society on a daily basis and I get a lot from helping those who need it most. We work on very serious cases, so it’s fantastic to be working somewhere like Richard Reed where everyone is so supportive and its like being part of a family. Even though I’ve only joined quite recently, I already have been made to feel really welcome and at home by everyone.”

Alex Gent of FW Capital (FW Capital)

FW Capital has promoted Alex Gent in the firm’s North East office.

Ms Gent has been promoted to senior investment executive, following FW Capital’s ‘Career Pathway’ programme to give staff relevant experience and future progression. A qualified chartered accountant, Ms Gent has experience working with local businesses seeking growth funding and will continue to help deliver the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF) loans, to help businesses across the Tees Valley to reach their potential.

She said: “It has been a pleasure to work with so many ambitious SMEs and professional advisers since joining FW Capital, who are working to grow and add value to the Northern Powerhouse region. Seeing how the local economy has evolved, with a pandemic and economic turmoil thrown in for good measure and being able to continue playing a small part in that has not only been a fantastic platform to develop professionally, but also to appreciate the resilience of the business community.”

Jonathan Bone of Hay & Kilner (Hay & Kilner)

North East law firm Hay & Kilner has strengthened the senior team in its commercial property department with the appointment of Jonathan Bone.

Mr Bone has joined the Newcastle-headquartered firm as a partner and brings almost 20 years’ experience to his new role, most of which has been gained with high-profile firms in the region’s legal sector. He has worked on commercial property projects with businesses of all sizes, from North East SMEs and local landowners through to major national developers and large listed housebuilders, and has extensive experience of managing investment sales and acquisitions, portfolio management, landlord/tenant matters and site development projects.

He said: “The North East property market is continuing to thrive, and while many businesses are examining their future needs in the light of changing ways of working, there are always going to be opportunities to develop quality projects. Our region is also very highly regarded as a business destination, with a succession of UK and international companies deciding to base themselves here in recent years, and we expect to see this trend continuing.”
