'People mock me for what I called my kids as I named them after my favourite band'

When choosing a baby name, there could be numerous reasons why you would opt for a certain one over something else.

Perhaps you've always wanted to name your little one after a lost loved one, or you might like the idea of naming them after a celebrity or character from a book you like.

One parent recently admitted she had done the latter and decided to name her twin sons after members of her all-time favourite band, Oasis.

And while the mum initially thought she'd picked the perfect monikers for her little boys, she's started to get concerned that she might have made an error.

The unnamed woman took to Mumsnet to voice her fears and ask for some advice, saying that she believes people judge her for naming her children Liam and Noel.

She wrote: "Judged for my kids' names?!

"I have always been a massive Oasis fan (sorry Blur fans) and they have influenced me and inspired me throughout my entire life.

"When I found out I was having two little twin boys, I thought it would be amazing to name them after the Gallagher brothers!

"I thought it was a sweet idea, but people seem to frown and laugh thinking it's a joke!!"

She added that she felt "hurt" when people reacted this way after hearing the names.

The Gallagher brothers were the inspiration for the names (PA)

More than 200 people replied to her post, sharing their thoughts on the situation.

One person said: "Liam and Noel are actually pretty nice mainstream names. It’s not like it’s a Ringo type name or whatever."

Someone else commented: "Well I know someone that named their twins Ronnie and Reggie soooo...."

Another posted: "Not a fan of either name. Can also understand that when naming two children at the same time within the same family it'll seem a bit strange/funny to some people.

"But then... names are a bit of a polarising thing anyway and it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks."

A different user added: "I'm not surprised they laugh really."
