People living near Premier Inn 'stranded from homes without information' as fire rages

Some people who live near the Premier Inn on fire in Cribbs Causeway are unable to get into their homes.

More than 60 firefighters are tackling a fire at the hotel at the hotel on Catbrain Lane, off the M5.

It started on the third floor at around 1.30pm today (July 17) and spread to the roof, causing large amounts of black smoke to billow, visible from miles away.

A major incident was declared by police shortly after 5pm.

Resident Darren England said: “I live in Medlar Close off Catbrain Lane. I have been refused entry by foot to my street, and told to wait several hours for updates.

“Local residents who are unable to get back home have been left stranded without information. Is there no plan for local residents being turned away?

“I rang Avon and Somerset police and they couldn’t give me any information.”

Another resident said: "I was told to stay elsewhere, not allowed access to the neighbourhood."

Locals are being warned to close doors and windows due to the amount of smoke in the area.
