People just finding out real reason why Home Bargains price tags have star stickers

Yellow stickers in shops aren't an unusual sight, as they often mean you're getting a slashed price for whatever product it's stuck on.

They're most commonly seen in supermarkets, with savvy shoppers often hanging about until just the right moment to visit and get their hands on some bargains.

But it turns out other shops have their own symbols and labels to indicate certain things, such as the shapes on Zara tags telling you whether the clothing item runs big, small or true to size.

And one that's been confusing shoppers recently is the red star sticker that can often be found on Home Bargains price labels.

The Mirror reports that some customers have tried to guess what the sticker represents, with employees confirming the real reason why they can be found on some price tags.

A recent discussion began on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, where a man posted a snap of the sticker and asked: "Just a quick question, does anybody know what these red star stickers are for?

"I was thinking special offer or managers special but the items I have seen them on haven’t changed in price."

After the query was posted, many were quick to offer an explanation - with several employees of the stores even chiming in to reveal what these stars mean.

One person wrote: "It's a product we will always stock.

"It's mainly for staff so if we don't have any in to leave the price there and leave the shelf space as it should come back in on the next delivery if we sell out."

Another agreed but added there was another reason for them too, as they wrote: "It's the 75 products that they think people buy the most."

A third staff member confirmed that the sticker is there to highlight that they will always need the shelf space for that product as the space shouldn't be empty for any length of time.

So the next time you're in Home Bargains having a browse and you spot these stickers, unfortunately it doesn't mean that there is a hidden offer - it's just for staff to identify which products need regular shelf space.
