People in Teesside are reacting to the 2.8 magnitude earthquake in the best way

An earthquake shook residents in Teesside this morning and they have been reacting to the natural phenomenon in a suitably hilarious way ever since.

The 'Teesside tremor', which hit on Thursday, was the biggest to hit mainland UK for almost 25 years at a magnitude of 2.8.

People from across north east England - including Middlesbrough, Guisborough, Redcar and Hartlepool - were affected.

Some residents thought it was a dream, while others thought it was an explosion or even a train going past their window. One man told a local newspaper his son believed a poltergeist had entered his room.

Either way, it seems that rumbling awake thousands of unassuming northerners will result in an amusing Twitter storm.

Good vibrations

Imagining a large area of the north east of England vibrating in unison has given way to a number of funny memes.

Nothing gets past these people...

There was an earthquake? What, when, where? Oh.

Devastation across the land

Residents woke to pots strewn across the patio, bins akimbo, and worse yet - beheaded gnomes.

The sleuths

Some people will not rest until they get to the bottom of a matter.

Think of the wildlife!

A budgie could not eat his breakfast after being traumatised by the Teesside tremor. Travesty.

Never miss a sales pitch

The industrious among us will be sure to grab ahold of this moment with two hands.
