People in tears after dad who died before Creamfields gets final wish

People across Merseyside have praised the kindness of two strangers who fulfilled a dad's final wish after he took his own life.

Stuart Mitchell, 30, from Norwich, died in July, just a month before he had been set to attend Creamfields festival in Halton, and had already purchased his tickets for the Bank Holiday party.

Cousins Ryan and Liam Millen, from Liverpool, bought the tickets when they were re-advertised online and they arrived in an envelope, together with an unexpected second envelope which contained some of Stuart's ashes.

His family asked the lads to spread the ashes around Creamfields as it was an event he loved attending.

Ryan arranged for a banner to be made, bearing the dad-of-one's photograph holding his three-year-old son Oliver, with the message: "This last dance is for you mate."

After carrying a banner around the festival all weekend, Ryan managed to get it on main stage before organisers suggested firing out Stuart's ashes out of a confetti cannon by Tiesto during his headlining finale.

In a spectacular climax to the festival, Stuart's ashes were blasted into the sky as up to 70,000 ravers danced away in the fields of Daresbury.

ECHO readers were left in tears after hearing the news, as hundreds praised Ryan and Liam for their kindness in making it happen.

Kelly Murray said: "Such a sad story but what an amazing thing you two lads did. I read this with tears in my eyes, well done to you both for honouring him in such a heartfelt way x."

Lisa Dodgson said: "Absolutely amazing. So sad but so fantastic to have had his final wish and to be apart of it.

"Placing his ashes in the confetti Canon is amazing. What a fantastic tribute. Bless him."

Donna Stinchcomb said: "Awe this has give me goose bumps well done lads hope this has give comfort to his family xx."

Lee Mullin said: "Lovely tribute, what a send off as well. Well done those lads and I hope the family of Stuart Mitchell see the happiness in this in what is an upsetting situation, and stay safe and well."

Ryan, from Halewood, said: "Words cannot express our gratitude to his family for allowing us, to everyone who listened to his story and took pictures with the banner, and most importantly to the Creamfields production team for going above and beyond to accommodate us and go out of their way to allow us to honour his memory in such a fitting way.

"Stuart Mitchell, we are humbled to have been allowed to help you complete your journey with us.

"You will forever be a part of one of your favourite places.

"A piece of you always be with Creamfields."

The Millens later found out that Tiesto's version of Adagio For Strings had been played at his funeral and they have become firm friends of the Mitchell family since news of their accomplishments emerged.

Ryan, 34, added: "I'm bowled over by what happened.

"When Stuart's ashes were fired out, my heart literally skipped a beat, I was lost for words and beside myself.

"We were privileged to honour him in such a way."
