18 months into the pandemic and Sydney residents are still panic buying, but this time at Bunnings Warehouse of all places.
From tomorrow, new restrictions will be placed on retail stores in large parts of Sydney. That means shoppers can no longer walk-in and browse the store, because only click and collect will be available. It’s remarkable Bunnings stores weren’t closed at the start of the pandemic to begin with.
Customers were lining up in droves to get their final in-store Bunnings fix. So do people not realise that click and collect is still available and much more COVID-safe?
According to 9News, customers were seen leaving the Bunnings Warehouse Ashfield store with “everything from eskys to mops.”
At the Chatswood store, there was a long line stretching across the car park.
“When I left work on Saturday, there were around 60 people lined up outside waiting to get in to do last minute shopping,” A Bunnings staff member told PEDESTRIAN.TV.
On Friday, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced that the Greater Sydney lockdown would be extended until the end of September. Along with the extension, Berejiklian also announced some harsher restrictions for the state as a whole.
“From Monday [August 23] at midnight, unless you’re exercising, masks should be worn outdoors everywhere across NSW,” Berejiklian said at the daily coronavirus presser on Friday morning.
“Our concern is that when someone is walking past a group of people or bumping into a group of people, that can cause fleeting contact and transmission.”
As for the 12 Sydney LGAs of concern, they will need to abide by a curfew from 9pm to 5am starting from Monday. Outdoor exercise will also be limited to one hour per day and of course, garden, hardware and office supply retail will close except click and collect.
We don’t think Bunnings snags will be available for click and collect, unfortunately.
