People in Glasgow under 25 to face restrictions on renting Airbnb properties in city

Airbnb has announced it is to restrict the ability of under-25s in Glasgow and across the UK from renting entire homes via its platform in order to reduce unauthorised parties and ensure safety.

It comes after Nicola Sturgeon warned people in Scotland to "stick to the rules" regarding house parties or risk the threat of more restrictions on the ability of people to meet others indoors.

The ban will come into force across the UK and also in France and Spain, and will inhibit under-25s with less than three positive ratings from renting entire homes close to where they live.

Those under 25 with at least three positive reviews and no negative reviews on Airbnb or with long-term plans are not subject to the ban.

And all users can book private rooms and hotel rooms via the platform.

In a statement, Airbnb said “The restriction is intended to protect local communities while still allowing younger guests to book listings outside of their local area."

It follows testing of similar measures in the United States and Canada.
