People in Bristol reminded 'urinating and defecating in public an offence' during lockdown

People in Bristol are being urged not to urinate or defecate in public during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Bristol City Council has issued a warning and reminder that public facilities are closed in order to help stop the spread of coronavirus during lockdown.

The council added that "urinating and defecating in public is an offence" and that people they face fines.

The council said in a statement: "We would like to remind you that during the national lockdown, many public toilets in Bristol are closed.

"This is to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect our city. Most businesses are also unable to open their toilets to customers.

"We understand this may be inconvenient, but we urge you to please consider this closure of toilets when you plan to leave home for specific reasons, such as to shop or exercise.

"Urinating and defecating in public is an offence and people can be fined for this.

"Toilets in parks will remain open but opening and closing times may be revised due to changing seasonal demand.

"Facilities in supermarkets are also likely to remain open. You can visit lockdownloo to find information about open facilities."
