People in Ayrshire urged to 'Clap for our Carers' tonight

The people of Ayrshire are being urged to show their appreciation for key workers tonight.

Another planned round of applause will take place on doorsteps around the region and beyond at 8pm.

Last week, a huge number of households stood at their front doors and clapped the NHS staff leading the fight against coronavirus.

Now the movement has been extended to all frontline workers who are keeping the country ticking over during the pandemic.

In Kilmarnock last Thursday, a Shortlees resident went the extra mile by playing the bagpipes and drums into the night sky.

The bagpiper was reportedly Kyle Wallis and he was joined by his brother Dean on drums.

A video of the touching tribute was captured by Shortlees resident Kelly Fletcher has no been viewed more than 36,000 on the Kilmarnock Standard's Facebook.

Writing on the Clap for our Carers website, creator Annemarie Plas said: “We will still be clapping but this time we will add everyone that is helping our world to keep turning.

"All who are out so we can stay in.

“So thank you; shop workers, delivery men/women for food, goods and mail, mailman/women, nurses teachers, bin collectors, veterinarians, cleaners etc.

"Without you we are nowhere.”
