People 'heartbroken' all over again for baby boy found dead

People have spoken of their "heartbreak" after an inquest into the death of a baby boy found at a golf course in January could not determine how he died.

The inquest was held yesterday at Gerald Majella Courthouse in Kirkdale, where senior coroner Andre Rebello said that despite extensive examinations by two pathologists the medical cause of death could not be ascertained.

The baby's remains were found at Brackenwood golf course in Wirral in January by a dog walker prompting an outpouring of support from the local community while attempts to trace the baby's family, including a national DNA hunt, have proved unsuccessful.

The inquest, which lasted less than 10 minutes yesterday, September 29, heard Merseyside Police had received a call shortly before 4.30pm on January 29 reporting a child's remains had been found at the course, which is on Bracken Lane in Bebington.

Senior coroner Mr Rebello said: "The police issued press releases and posters in the area and unfortunately no-one has come forward."

An open verdict was recovered with the coroner saying it was believed the baby's body may have been left at the golf course at some time between December and January 18 or 19, when a groundskeeper at the course recalled seeing a bag on the ground.

|t is unknown whether the baby was born living or stillborn.

The verdict prompted a renewed outpouring of sympathy for the tragic infant with people taking to social media to express their sadness.

One person said: "Poor little babe, so sad."

Another added: "How can they not know the cause of death" while one person said: "Heart breaking, rest in peace little one."

One said: "Lots of love to you and the mum whoever you are xxx"

Another person said: "So so sad that this little angel was left like that also sad that his mother hasn't been found and given some sort of help."

Another, referring to a name which has been given to the baby locally, said: "RIP Bracken in the arms of angels."

One person said: "I was only thinking about this today, heart breaking" while another added: "no one deserves to be left like that."

Others added: "Tragic" and "so sad"

The coroner had also said: "Hopefully any publicity from the inquest will lead to relatives of this baby coming forward."
