People have voted on the top ten most annoying social media travel pictures

A study by hotel chain Hampton by Hilton has revealed the travel pictures Brits find the most irritating on social media.

Behold the culprits:

1. Hot dogs or legs? (26%)

2. Boastful captions, such as 'my Monday is going better than yours' (23%)

3. Poses in bikinis/swimwear (20%)

4. Pictures of drinks (19%)

5. Poses on pristine beaches (16%)

6. Sunlounger poses (15%)

7. Pictures on the plane - out of the plane window, or if you are travelling in business class (15%)

8. People posting images long after they return (13%)

9. Official shoots with a professional photographer (12%)

10. Sunsets or sunrises (12%)

If you feel flooded by perfect pictures of perfect vacations on perfect sunny beaches, you are not alone.

Although these paradisiac holidays only represent 10% of Brits’ annual leave, bikini pictures and cinematic sunset seems to overflow Instagram.

Twenty-eight percent of people say they’re fed up with people overexposing their holidays, while three in ten of us would like to see more realistic travel pictures.

Too many filters kill reality (Nick Ansell/PA Wire)

However, that might be hard for the 20% of us who've already posted a picture that made their holiday look greater than it really was (I plead guilty).

More than 3 million people have unfollowed accounts because of social media overload - 14% of them admitting it was affecting their mental health.

So next time your tent doesn’t fold properly or you’ve been eaten by mosquitoes - share it. We won’t judge.
