People have mixed feelings on sending British troops into Ukraine

Russia's invasion of Ukraine has caused anger around the world.

Western leaders have scheduled an emergency meeting as tensions continue to escalate and deaths rise.

The situation has left many divided on how the UK should respond.

Defence Secretary Ben Wallace confirmed in a BBC Breakfast interview that there are no plans to deploy British troops to Ukraine.

ECHO readers took part in an anonymous survey yesterday and were asked: 'Should we send British troops into Ukraine?'

The survey found that 70% of those who took part were against troops being sent.

One reader said: "My son is in the forces and it terrifies me when this happens. He's served in Iraq and Afghanistan. I don't think my nerves could take it again."

Another said: "As a soldier, going into Ukraine would be unreasonable, the kit we have is not as good as people make it out to be, we would be outmatched heavily, sending us into Ukraine is a death wish, the size of the British Army compared to Russia is unfathomable, and the kit Russia has works a lot better than ours does."

However, 26% of readers were in favour of sending British troops to Ukraine.

One reader said: "If it was us as a nation of people, I would hope other countries would step up and help us."

Another said: "We need to help. Ukrainian people have not asked for this and don't deserve it. There are children and elderly people they need our help."

There were 4% of readers who were unsure about whether the UK should be involved.

A reader said: "I think if Ukraine are handling it then we should let them carry on independently. If they can't then my personal thoughts are to maybe see who from our military wants to go and help out then see where we stand from there. If all else fails then everyone will have to get involved."

Another shared similar views: "I think we need time to think not act to hastily."
