People have been removing tape from out-of-bounds public places

People have been removing tape put in place to help prevent the spread of coronavirus around Swansea.

The tape was put up by the council to stop members of the public from using parks and outdoor exercise equipment during the pandemic.

Pictures show how it has been torn away from a number of outdoor spaces around the city, despite the areas being out of bounds due to social distancing.

Swansea Council said staff had been "verbally abused" by members of the public as they replaced the tape.

The council has asked the public to leave taped-off areas alone and to not abuse staff who are trying to protect people.

A spokesman for Swansea Council said: "We've had reports people are tearing down taped-off areas around children's play zones and outdoor exercise equipment in some of our parks. Some people have verbally abused our staff who are replacing the tape.

"The tape is there following government guidance to prevent the spread of coronavirus. While our parks remain open."

He said the measures are in place to keep everyone safe, adding:"So, please, do the right thing - don't use children's play areas or the outdoor exercise equipment, do not remove the tape used to close these areas off and please do not abuse our staff who are only trying to protect you."
