As the coronavirus spreads in Tokyo, the Niigata Prefectural government requested on Friday that people returning or moving to the prefecture from Tokyo self-isolate for about two weeks and refrain from leaving their homes unless it is urgent or absolutely necessary.

As the new fiscal year begins, people tend to become more active, so the request was made to stop the virus from spreading in the prefecture.

There are currently 35 cases of the coronavirus in Niigata Prefecture. There were three people who tested positive for the virus on Friday, and of those three, two were students who were returning from Tokyo.

"I would like to ask people who have come from areas where they were asked to refrain from leaving their homes to be cautious," Niigata Gov. Hideyo Hanazumi said.
