'People forget quickly' - Allan Saint-Maximin takes aim at Newcastle United critics

Allan Saint-Maximin has hit back at those who scapegoated him for Newcastle United's 1-0 defeat to Everton on Thursday. Some fans were furious at the winger for losing possession in the build-up to Alex Iwobi's 99th-minute winner. More than 14 minutes of stoppage time was added on after a protester delayed the game by tying themselves to the goal post, allowing the Toffees to snatch all the points right at the death.

Saint-Maximin came off the bench with 20 minutes to go at Goodison Park but failed to make an impact as Newcastle conceded a late goal for the second consecutive game. The winger - who has not started for the Magpies since a 1-0 win against Aston Villa last month - vowed to put things right on Instagram while taking aim at his new-found critics.

He claimed that 'people forget quickly', alluding to the impact he has had since arriving in 2019. The 25-year-old was instrumental is keeping Newcastle afloat while the club was effectively in limbo while the takeover saga played out.

This season, no player has made more goal contributions for Newcastle (eight) than Saint-Maximin, highlighting his importance to the side despite what his critics may say. A 16-day layoff and some warm-weather training in Dubai gives the Frenchman an opportunity to get back to full fitness ahead of the final nine games.
