People flying to Spain over Easter could face travel chaos amid strikes

Holidaymakers heading to Spain for an Easter break could see their plans disrupted as strikes begin in Spanish airports.

Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) and Unión General de Trabajadores have announced 60,000 airport staff will stage a series of walk-outs.

The action is planned for April 21 (Easter Sunday) and April 24. It will affect all Spanish airports.

The strikes fall during holiday season, as millions head to the country's resorts for a pre-summer break.

The unions' dispute with the company Aseata is over pay and conditions for staff, including clauses regarding workers who are transferred from one company to another, the Mirror reports.

Despite entering negotiations through organisation SIMA (Interconfederal Service of Mediation and Arbitration), USO has since confirmed an agreement has not been reached and walk-outs will go ahead.

Union representative Isabel Rubio said: "It was impossible to reach an agreement, because the employer wanted a blank check: withdraw the strike in exchange for nothing, when in July and October it withdrew with agreements and they have not complied with them."

If you are flying to and from Spain in the mentioned dates, you should check with your flight operator before travelling.
