People fleeing Ukraine to be given phone chargers and SIM cards on arrival in Ireland

The government has said that anyone arriving in Ireland after fleeing Ukraine will be given phone chargers and SIM cards.

The violent Russian invasion of Ukraine entered its 14th day today, and it is understood thousands of people evacuated amid the ceasefire this morning.

Around 2,500 refugees have arrived in Ireland so far and the Government says IT and telecommunications equipment are among the many things that will be offered.

Care packages have been put together to help those arriving here, with products donated by companies nationwide.

Technology and telecommunications equipment is being provided by the likes of Vodafone, Eir, Three, DID, Currys and An Post Mobile.

Meanwhile, other personal products have been donated by Aldi, Boots, Musgraves, Tesco, and Smyths - including children's toys and baby equipment.

There have been many companies coming forward to offer their help to those arriving in Ireland, including Shaws, Primark, and Marks & Spencers.

For Ukrainians landing at Dublin Airport over the coming days, the SSP Catering Group will be providing them with food and drink.

A spokesperson for the Department of Justice told RTE News this evening that "additional support and donations continue to be received and the Department is grateful to IBEC members and other private sector organisations for their prompt and significant response to the call for help.”
