People fishing in park during coronavirus lockdown slammed as 'covidiots'

People fishing in a Bristol park have been labelled "covidiots" by an onlooker.

And police had words of warning for them - stressing fishing is NOT a reason to leave the house.

A woman shared a picture of the men by the water, writing: "Is fishing now on the list of activities people are allowed to do Avon and Somerset Police? Pretty sure you’re only allowed to fish in Eastville Lake and not the river next to it. Covidiots."

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police made it clear the fishers were ignoring important government advice.

The police force said: "The requirements on social distancing mean you should not be leaving your house in order to go fishing recreationally."

However, this didn't stop some people believing they were entitled to still go fishing.

One person wrote: "Mind your own business. You can't get the virus from a fish."

However, others were shocked that there was so much support for the fishermen on social media.

They wrote: "The comments people justifying."

For clarity, you should not be leaving the confines of your house to go fishing during a global pandemic. More information about the real reasons you should leave the house can be found here.
