People feel sick after man runs out of milk when making mash - and uses 'foul' swap

How do you like your mashed potatoes? Whether you prefer using milk, cream or another ingredient to perfect your mash, most people will agree there are certain flavour combinations that just don't mix.

So it should be little surprise one man has caused a stir after revealing the unusual milk substitute he used in his dinner.

The mash fan had been hoping to use milk, a conventional choice many will support.

Unfortunately, his plan quickly fell apart after he realised he'd used up all of his milk. Keen to enjoy his dinner nonetheless, he came up with an idea. But many people think the creative chef should have gone without after seeing his substitute.

The man claimed he used chocolate milk in his mash (Facebook)

With no milk to add to his potatoes, the foodie opted to use chocolate milk instead. He then showed off the results of his attempt online.

Posting to Reddit, the foodie confessed: "I was out of milk for my mashed potatoes so I used chocolate milk."

The revelation was first shared last year and has since been recirculated online this week, and it is fair to say people were unimpressed on both occasions.

Reacting to a photo of the chef's brown-coloured creation, one person said: "Looks like punishment for a serious crime." Another thought: "That looks foul."

A third agreed: "No no no that's is gross," before sharing several emojis depicting someone being sick.

Someone else simply wrote: "Crying," while another speculated: "Think your dogs got a bad stomach."

A few commenters hoped the photo actually showed refried beans, but the post's creator stuck by his claims.

Explaining his logic in response to a puzzled viewer, he wrote: "Well, I was making the sausages, but thought I'd be a bit scarce, needed something else. Wanted mashed potatoes, but didn't have milk.

"Considered using just water, but my roommate said I needed the binding properties of milk, then he offered his chocolate milk as a substitute.

"I've got a stuffy nose, so I can't really taste anything so I thought eh why not, it'll just be a bit brown but otherwise the same. But I could still taste the sweetness. I will admit this was a mistake. Wasn't that bad though."
