People feel Cardiff has become less safe in the last year, survey shows

People feel that Cardiff has become less safe in the last year, a survey has found.

The results came from a WalesOnline survey which asked people if they think Cardiff is a safe place to live and if they feel the capital has become more or less safe in the last year.

Almost 2,000 people responded to the survey. The full results are below.

It is important to bear in mind that this is not a reflective sample of the whole of Cardiff. The survey was open to anyone and is therefore likely to attract people who care very deeply about the issues.

The results are also not the definitive view of people in Cardiff but instead a reflection of what the people who completed the survey think.

Do you think Cardiff is a safe place to live?

We asked people if they think Cardiff is a safe place to live and 1,968 people submitted a response.

Of those, 50% (985) said that Cardiff isn't a safe place to live, compared to 35% (680) who said it is safe.

15% of respondents, 303 people, said they were unsure.

Do you think Cardiff has become more or less safe in the last year?

Our second survey question asked people if they think Cardiff has become more or less safe in the last year and 1,971 people responded.

The vast majority of those people, 1,462 or 74%, felt that the city has become less safe in the last 12 months.

This was compared to 310, or 16%, of respondents who felt that how safe the city is has not changed.

121 people, 6% of respondents, said they were not sure while the remaining 78 people, or 4%, said the city had become safer in the last year.

The results come after a number of stop and search notices have been issued by South Wales Police across the capital in recent months alongside a number of violent incidents.
