People fall in love with Leitrim hurler Zak Moradi as he tells his incredible story on Tommy Tiernan show

People were falling in love with Leitrim hurler Zak Moradi after he told his incredible story on the Tommy Tiernan Show tonight.

Moradi grew up in Iraq in a Kurdish family but when he was 11 years old his family fled Saddam Hussein's horror regime to move to Ireland.

Finding himself in Carrick-on-Shannon in 2002 was a big culture shock to Moradi but he quickly fell in love with hurling.

And he has gone to become a regular member of the Leitrim hurling team. And even when he and his mother moved to Tallaght in Dublin, Moradi still made the long journey back to the north-west for training and matches.

Moradi was on the Leitrim team that won the Lory Meaghar cup - 17 years after arriving here as a refugee.

It was a story that hit a chord with many people who praised Moradi on social media:
