People evacuated from homes after fire breaks out at Bristol fish and chip shop

People were evacuated from their homes after a chip shop fire in Southmead.

Crews were called to the Star Fish Bar on Greystoke Avenue at just after 2am today after reports of a fire in the premises.

Firefighters from Avonmouth, Patchway and Southmead were called to tackle the blaze on the ground floor fast food outlet.

People living in the first and second floor flats above the property were evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus and one high pressure hose reel to extinguish the blaze.

A ventilation fan was used to clear the property of smoke.

No-one was injured as a result of the blaze and it is understood all residents have been able to return to their homes.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
