People evacuated after 'home crumbles' as council cordon off scene

People are currently evacuated from their homes after a house was seen 'crumbling' on a terraced street.

Homes on Castlewell in Whiston, Prescot have been evacuated by Knowsley Council after an emergency prohibition order was put in place.

Pictures of the scene appear to show a gable end which has collapsed from a house at the end of the street.

Builders were pictured at the scene working on the house as a number of bricks can be seen spewed all over the road.

An emergency prohibition order from Knowsley Council was pictured on a number of doors in the street.

It is understood the building collapse has impacted 10 homes and people were evacuated from their properties.

Part of the notice reads: "The council is satisfied that the hazard(s) involve(s)an imminent risk of serious harm to the health or safety of occupier(s) of the premises and that the council is under a duty to take appropriate enforcement action under section 5 of the Housing Act 2004 (the Act)."

The order also said Knowsley Council "prohibit the immediate effect the use of the dwelling and for any purpose not approved by the council" under section 43 of the Housing Act 2004.

Pictures of the scene show metal barriers blocking off the properties and a 'Danger demolition in progress sign'.

It is unclear what type of work is being carried out on the properties and how long residents will not be able to return home.

Knowsley Council has been approached for comment.
