'People don't see that' - Gonzalo Higuain has a message for his Chelsea critics ahead of Burnley

On-loan Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain has spoken out about the pressure of playing for clubs such as Chelsea, Napoli and Real Madrid as he goes in search of his first goal in five games agaisnt Burnley on Monday evening.

The Argentinian left Milan to join the Blues in January after enduring a less than successful first half of the season at the San Siro.

However, despite showing flashes of quality in his opening few games, he has failed to fix the problems up in Maurizio Sarri's team.

A decision over a transfer ban on any new signings in the summer also threatens to cast his future into doubt as Juventus do not see a future for the 31-year-old in their first team squad.

So far, he has managed to score three goals in 13 appearances across all competitions since moving to Stamford Bridge and after Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all lost at the weekend, a match-winning performance against Burnley would come at just the right time for club and player.

In an interview with ESPN Argentina, Higuain hit out at his critics but spoke about his change in mentality as a more mature player who is no longer interested in negative headlines about his performances.

"I have always regretted taking refuge at home and not having gone out on the street just out of fear of what criticis might tell me," he said, as reported by Sport.

"There are people who do evil and bad things with an uncovered face without shame. We haven't killed anyone, we only play sport and we cannot go out?

"People always say 'with the money they earn...', but you can't buy friends. I have been spending birthdays and Christmases with different people for 14 years.

"I want to see my mother but it's 15 hours on a plane for her. Obviously, I could pay for the ticket but I don't have her 10 minutes from me. The people don't see that, only the goals you score or your performances.

"I'm at a stage of me life in which nothing hurts me a lot (now)."

Chelsea have been linked with Luka Jovic, the forward they will come against in their Europa League semi-final clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Serbian has enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga but is also reportedly a target for Real Madrid and unless the Blues win their appeal over a two window transfer ban they will be powerless to challenge the La Liga giants for his services.
