People divided on whether British troops should be sent into Ukraine

The Russian invasion of Ukraine today sent shockwaves through the international community.

The Prime Minister has announced new sanctions for Russia and has described President Putin as a ''bloodstained aggressor."

It comes after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine with explosions, shelling and vehicles seen crossing the border.

Boris Johnson said he had assured Ukraine's leaders of the "unwavering support of the United Kingdom."

In light of the outrage the invasion has provoked, we asked ECHO readers: "Do you think British troops should be sent into Ukraine?"

Some people were in favour of sending troops to help Ukraine.

Liane Brady said: "I hate war. It destroys lives but somebody has to help these people."

Thomas Moore said: "I'd like to think if we were the smaller country under attack in this scenario... a larger country would come and help us..."

Holly Clarke said: "Yes we have resources to help and what Russia are doing will directly affect us! Humans are dying unnecessarily! If we can help we should! After the speech Boris gave today we'd likely be targets ourselves now too anyway."

Paula Morgan said: "Everyone saying stay out of it... till when? Until Russia is on our doorstep and we have no allies because we stayed out of it?"

Kayleigh Jamieson said: "Yes Ukraine needs our help! We're British we don't sit and watch others suffer.. we unite and take control before things get worse!"

However others were against the idea of sending the British military to Eastern Europe.

Margaret Gibbard said: "How come we have food banks, heating poverty, NHS on its knees, yet always have money to warmonger."

Robert Pattison said: "Russia will squash us tbf ..... we still think we're some super power ... well in fact we're a tiny island dependent on other nations for utilities and food .... we should mind our own business."

Neil Whitaker said: "Definitely not, give them support and arms to fight Russia but no British troops."
