People discover they've been using nail files wrong as 'hidden' feature revealed

People on social media have been blown away after discovering that nail files have a "secret" hidden feature that makes them last longer.

An essential grooming tool, nail files or emery boards are used for smoothing out any rough edges on your nails, making them perfectly manicure-ready in seconds.

But the more they're used, the more the rough surface gets covered in scratch marks and doesn't work as well as a brand new one. However, there's no need to throw it out and purchase a new one, as one quick hack can make them as good as new once again.

The trick was shared via the Twitter account @todayyearsoldig, which often posts mind-blowing tricks that people are usually completely unaware of.

The tweet has been liked a whopping 42,900 times and counting, harnessing hundreds of replies from flabbergasted beauty fans.

Posting a picture of a nail file with the top layer being removed, the tweet reads: "How old were you ladies when you learnt you can peel the old layers off to reveal a new one?"

Sure enough, the image shows a fresh new layer of the nail file beneath the original one, meaning there's an unspoiled surface that can be used for filing again and again without having to throw it out and buy a new one.

Nail files are great for on-the-go as they're lightweight and can be easily carried around in your bag.

But you should never file your nails when you're straight out the shower or bath as this is when they're at their weakest, and it can cause them damage.

In the tweet's replies, people were stunned to learn about the hack and many couldn't believe they hadn't seen it before.

Answering the original tweeter's question, one person said: "Today years old!!! I've been throwing them out."

Another commented: "You're kidding. I used to be a nail tech and I was today years old when I learned this. I feel so stupid lol."

A third added: "I don't think they all do this but pretty cool!"

And another admitted: "I'm 65, and I never knew this, until seeing it here just now."
