Posting on Twitter, the local authority said the car park would remain closed temporarily, due to a number of RNLI lifeguards having to self-isolate.
The tweet continued: "For your safety please plan your visit to another lifeguarded beach if possible.
"Parking is OPEN at Ainsdale beach."
Current guidance says if you are told by the NHS app you have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for the coronavirus, then you should isolate.
Sefton Council has today told the ECHO the beach car park at Southport has reopened, as the RNLI has its lifeguard cover back up and running as usual.
