People can now book a coronavirus vaccine online in Swansea Bay and this how

A new pilot system has been started allowing people the chance to book their own coronavirus vaccination online in the Swansea Bay area.

People living in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot have been given the opportunity to make their own appointment as part of a limited pilot of an online vaccine booking system launched by Swansea Bay University Health Board. It is for those having their first doses only, and the health board said: "The new service has been designed to make it easier and quicker to book vaccination appointments. Please take advantage of it if you can."

Check coronavirus figures where you live:

You can only access it via links in a text message sent from the health board, with the number ending 9092. The next batch of text messages will be sent out on Thursday morning. The health board said it was targeting those under age 40, either from its reserve list or those whose records showed they had not been vaccinated.

There will be Pfizer vaccine appointments available every 15 minutes between 10am and 4.45pm Thursday and Friday at the Swansea Bay Studios Mass Vaccination Centre. The pilot will later be evaluated to see if a wider roll out of the system is possible.

Yesterday, we reported how Swansea Bay University Health Board had invited anyone interested in receiving the vaccination to join its reserve list. Those who join will then receive a text message inviting them to call the booking centre to secure their appointment for one day this week. You can join the reserve list by clicking here.

As of May 18, at 4pm, 248,108 people across Swansea Bay had received their first dose of the vaccine, with 110,645 of those also having received their second dose.
