People can holiday in Wales from next month as the country's borders reopen to tourists

People from England will be able to go on holiday in Wales again from next month, it has been confirmed.

After a nationwide lockdown in mid-March, devolved powers have taken different approaches to a gradual easing of restrictions.

While English retailers have now reopened, Wales has taken a more cautious approach. But it has now confirmed that holidaymakers will be able to visit Wales from July .

UK staycations are set to be hugely popular this year, according to tourism experts, and Wales could capitalise on a boom in UK-based holidays.

Its holiday hotspots - including its range of camping sites and caravan parks - will be allowed to open again from July 6.

Static caravans, holiday cottages and some hotels are taking bookings from the same week, reports Birmingham Live.

First Minister Mark Drakeford announced the measures in an address on Friday morning, telling tourism bosses to prepare as the sector is given a well-needed injection of life.

Bookings can be made from Monday, July 13, according to Mr Drakeford, who made the announcement having previously shut the country's borders to holidaymakers.

While in England people can travel as far as they want for exercise, Wales has maintained a "stay local" mantra.

Non-essential shops in Wales will be allowed to reopen from this Monday.
