People 'blown away' by stunning Christmas lights display

A festive rivalry between two neighbours has led to an explosion of lights in one Wirral road.

The spectacular display in Templemore Road, Prenton, has led to spectators even crossing the water from Liverpool to see it for themselves.

The Christmas lights show outside the two houses are the work of neighbours Ian and Dave, who for the past few years have bid to out-do each other in the scale of the decorations outside their respective homes.

This year they, along with the rest of the road, are also raising money for Claire House childrens' hospice.

Ian, an engineer by trade, said: "I've always had a friendly rivalry with my near neighbour Dave, and this year I decided to really push the boat out.

"It takes a few weeks to put up with the switch-on happening in mid-November.

"It's very busy outside most evenings as people come to look at the display, with some even travelling from as far as Liverpool.

"It's actually not that heavy on the electricity. The lights are low wattage LEDs and it's the equivalent of running a small fridge."

Fellow Christmas enthusiast Dave said: "There's been a fantastic reaction, with throngs of people in the road. It's really cheered everybody up, and we get so much fun out of putting it all together."

Videos of the display have also been appearing on social media, with people saying they were "blown away" by the decorations.
