People asked to stay local when exercising after warning of busy Bristol parks

People across Bristol are being urged to ‘stay local’ when venturing out for exercise during lockdown.

Bristol City Council has warned that as people head out for fresh air, major open spaces such as Ashton Court, Blaise Castle and Oldbury Court are becoming ‘very busy’ at times.

Authority bosses are instead asking people to consider visiting more local parks.

In a tweet from the city council it said: “Please be aware that our major parks – like Ashton Court, Blaise Castle and Oldbury Court estates – are becoming very busy at times.

“You may wish to consider visiting more local parks for exercise during the current lockdown regulations.”

Under the new lockdown rules it is against the law to meet people outside of your household or support bubble for leisure or recreational purposes.

Exercise is allowed but should be limited to once per day and only within your local area. People can exercise outdoors with the people they live with, their support bubble or with one other person from another household, but while doing so should stay two metres apart.

Where this is not possible people should stay a metre apart and take other precautions, such as wearing a face mask.

Public open spaces include parks, beaches, playgrounds, countryside open to the public and forests.
