Some of the capital’s commuters may be complaining about the London Tube strike starting this evening, but there is a strong contingent of Bake Off fans who are pleased as punch.
The highly anticipated new series of the BBC’s Great British Bake Off starts tonight and people are making most of an excuse to leave the office early and get home in plenty of time for an evening of Mary Berry, Paul Hollywood and glorious cakes:
Not only has the tube strike meant my supervision is cancelled, I now no longer have to rush home in time for Bake Off #thereisagod

Most important thing abt the #tubestrike: I'll be home in time for #bakeoff. Never let it be said I don't have my priorities straight. #GBBO

I'd like to thank the striking tube workers for making sure we all leave work early and get home in time for BAKE OFF #tubestrike #GBBO

Embracing some #humpday motivation to avoid the #tubestrike and get home for #GBBO. #LETSGO

The early crush you'll see on @centralline tonight won't be due to the #tubestrike. It's because #BakeOff starts this evening.

It all makes sense now... Tube workers are on strike so they can watch @BritishBakeOff! #GBBO #tubestrike pic.twitter.com/JytSKGFOdw

Others have even gone so far as to cancel plans in the name of the Tube strike when their real intent is to be glued to the television:
I'm worried I might have just used the #tubestrike as an excuse to cancel my plans so I can go home and watch #GBBO. Sorry @TerryDBlack

Bake Off! Tonight! I must cancel all my plans! (Can I blame the tube strike?) #GBBO

But, for some, the Tube strike will probably mean no GBBO for them tonight:
If the tube strike stops me from getting home in time for Great British Bake Off tomorrow, I'll be really peed off

If the #Tubestrike stops me getting home in time for #GBBO tonight there will be trouble. Tube drivers, watch yo backs.

If the #tubestrike makes me miss The Great British Bake Off I will not be happy

If I miss the Bake-Off tomorrow because of this tube strike I am going to be pissed #greatbritishbakeoff
