People are selling £14 Lidl trainers for £450 on eBay in mad rush to bag a pair

Clever shoppers are cashing in on the wild popularity of Lidl's new £14 trainers, selling them for as much as £450 online.

The blue, yellow and red shoes were launched in stores overseas this April, and proved far more popular than anyone predicted.

Featuring the Lidl logo as part of their design, they are now fetching up to 30 times their original price on sites like eBay.

Unfortunately, Brits looking to make money from the deal might struggle, after the supermarket said the shoes won’t be sold in the UK any time soon.

What would you pay for a pair? (Lidl)

The popularity of the colourful shoes was evident from the moment they went on sale, with shoppers queueing for hours to get hold of a pair, Finnish news site  Foreigner  reports.

One customer said: “Everyone lined up normally. At exactly 8 am they run or quickly walked to the shop and the sneakers’ shelf emptied in less than 10 seconds.”

Another described people "on top of each other" as the seller shouted: "Remember the social distance."

As the madness intensified one person even listed a pair on Finnish auction site Tori for £5,400.

With news of the Lidl shoes spreading to the UK, people are coming up with cunning plans to get in on the action.

One Brit commented: “Thinking of starting a black market ebusiness where I smuggle Lidl trainers.”

The shoes were still available on Lidl’s Dutch website for £12 this week, but plans were scotched when people found out Lidl doesn't ship internationally.
