People are 'scared to look' in their sinks after seeing 'horrendous' cleaning hack

Although our sinks get used more or less every single day, the majority of us wouldn't give a second thought to what lurks beneath our plugs - and that may well be a good thing. Washing up sauce-smeared plates and half-empty glasses will inevitably take a toll on your plug-hole, no matter how careful you might be, but the result likely looks far grimmer than you'd expect.

A cleaning guru has now left fans sickened after sharing their hack for cleaning away hidden sink grime, with some left shuddering that they were now too 'scared to look' in their own sinks after seeing the full grotty picture.

Taking to TikTok, a team member from kitchen gadgets store Cultro - which goes by the username @cultrostore - shared a video of the savvy hack, which begins by pulling out the sink strainer or plug out. The strainer or plug is then used as a tool to carefully unscrew the sinkhole, revealing the less-than-pleasant build-up beneath.

The video shows how a thick brown mass had built up beneath the plug hole, which would have remained completely, blissfully unseen had the plug not been unscrewed.

Luckily, the mass was shown to be easily removed, with the sinkhole left thankfully gleaming once more after a thorough scrub. The video has since been viewed more than 1.5 million times and counting, with many expressing shock at just how filthy the sink was.

In response to one query about whether this was the case for all stainless steel sinks, the content creator replied they believed so, adding, "the smell was horrendous when I first took it out, but it's as clean as a whistle now!"

A second stunned person wrote: "Man, first time I ever took mine off after watching this. It was filthy."

Disgust aside, others applauded the hack, with a third person commenting: "Honestly I am so chuffed I have seen this as it's been doing my head in that my drains can smell that bad. This has actually made my evening seeing this."
