People are only now discovering the 'extra' use for door springs and are in awe at 'life hack'

Door springs are a familiar sight in homes across Ireland.

Many of us know they're there to protect walls and paintwork from doors smacking against them and possibly causing dents or scratches.

Others know them as things to play with when bored to make a satisfying yet annoying sound.

But now, there's another use that people are only now discovering.

TikTok user @the_artful_odds left viewers astonished when they revealed they can also be used as a way to keep a door open.

Explaining how they are aware it isn't the main use of the spring, they added that it can be an "extra use if you have a wall guard for the knob."

They demonstrated the hack in a video on their account and captioned it: "From doorstopper to doorkeeper."

They said that if you need your door to stay open, and you have a door spring on the wall, bend the stopped down, open the door fully over the top, then release. The stopper at the end will stop the door from closing.

The clip has since gone viral with more than 1.6 million views and hundreds of comments from people who could not believe this was the first time they were finding out about it.

One person wrote: "How am I learning this today."

Another added: "What? I’ve never thought of this."

A third said: "I've learned more from TikTok than any school that I've been to."

"Well, I was today years old," said another.

Someone else theorised: "Bruh that’s why it’s called a door stopper and not a wall protector."

As people rushed to try the 'life hack' some were left disappointed when they discovered that the gap between the bottom of the door and floor wasn't big enough in their homes.

"You guys can fit your whole foot under your door?" one user asked.

"I mean I have one but it’s a hard one and not bendy like that whatsoever. I’ll just break the baseboard if I did that," argued another.

Give it a try yourself and let us know in the comments if it worked for you!
