It's safe to say that we all know our make-up brushes need a good clean regularly to ensure that we're not spreading bacteria and grime around our faces. But did you know that your hairbrush also needs a deep clean? If you said no, you're not the only one.
But Nicole Jaques, who posts on Instagram as @itsnicolejaques, has shared that hairbrushes need to be deep-cleaned every two weeks to avoid that grey lint build-up - which is even grosser than you think.
She shared with her followers what the grey lint actually is - and people were truly horrified.
In the caption, as well as the video, she explained: "The residue that you see in your hairbrush that sometimes resembles grey lint is dead skin cells and sebum, along with old, matted hair and hair product residue.
"This creates bacteria and your hairbrush slowly becomes more and more contaminated."
This is why your hairbrush needs to be cleaned regularly - and to do that, she recommended using "shampoo or baking soda" in warm water. Nicole recommended leaving them to soak for 20 minutes, and after she'd finished, she described the water as "so gross."
In the caption, she offered advice on what to do, writing: "If you have a round brush, use scissors to snip the clumps of hair on both sides, for easier removal. Once all hair is out of your brushes then, fill a large bowl (or your sink) with warm water and mild shampoo or baking soda (for deodoriser) and swish the brush around in the water for a deep clean.
"Let soak for up to 20 mins. Use a clean toothbrush to scrub between the rows of bristles and around the handle if you want. The baking soda will act as a gentle abrasive to remove the gunk and shampoo will help cleanse the brush. Rinse under warm water and let dry. Recommended you do this at least every two weeks."
Nicole also recommended using 70% concentration rubbing alcohol to disinfect and "ensure they are thoroughly sterilised."
Someone commented on the video: "I hate that my dry shampoo makes my brush so nasty."
Another said: "You are terrific Nicole. Following you for some time and I love all your content….just fabulous!"
