People are not happy as Paul Mescal AND Andrew Scott claimed as British after Emmy nominations

Irish people have been left bemused after a number of UK media outlets claimed Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott as their own today.

Both Irish actors received Emmy nominations today but some websites across the water labelled the pair "British".

Normal People star Paul Mescal is of course from Co Kildare, while Andrew Scott is a proud Dubliner.

One of the outlets said in their article: "There was a strong showing for British talent including Paul Mescal nominated for Normal People, Dev Patel for Modern Love, Andrew Scott for Black Mirror and Matthew McFadyen for Succession."

This has been updated to say Irish on the various media sites but that wasn't before the people of Twitter spotted it.

One fan tweeted: "On what planet is Paul Mescal British? He played GAA with Kildare and his mom was a guard."

Emma Kelly added: "Take a shot any time Paul Mescal is referred to as British this awards season, you’ll be drunk till next summer and may not remember this hellscape."

Dr Eoin Lettice said: "I see the Brits are at it again - Paul Mescal now British, apparently."

The real news however is that Kildare born actor Mescal has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series for his role as Connell Waldron.

The nomination puts the Irish heartthrob alongside Jeremy Irons, Watchmen; Hugh Jackman, Bad Education; Jeremy Pope, Hollywood; Mark Ruffalo, I Know This Much Is True.

While Andrew Scott's performance in Black Mirror earned him a place on the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series shortlist.
