Zach D In the clip he explains that a lot of people tend to think that the hole is at the top of the pen lid for some reason to do with the ink or something similar.

He explained that the real reason for the hole at the top of the is to allow airflow should the pen lid get swallowed and trapped in the throat.

The video also shows a diagram of the skeletal x-ray and how crucial this little hole could be to allowing air flow if the lid is swallowed, which could be a real lifesaver.

The clip has been seen by over three million people and has got quite the reaction from many people.

In response many were shocked by these revelations as person wrote: "I remember chewing this pen cap during my childhood."

While another said: "'Wow hopefully that never happens to anyone."

However, others were quick to say they already knew this tip as one wrote: "'I thought this was common knowledge."
