People are just discovering what the ridges on Ritz crackers are actually for

If you're partial to a savoury snack, it's likely you've come across Ritz crackers.

Their golden colour, perfect crunch and deliciously salty taste is enough to make anyone's mouth water, but have you ever thought about why the humble Ritz cracker has jagged edges running around the perimeter?

The tasty treat has seven perforations and a finely scalloped edge, which most of us would put down to sheer aesthetics, but apparently, they actually serve a purpose.

The hidden function has caught Ritz fans by surprise, as they'd never given the unassuming edges a second thought. The next time you tuck into one, you won't be able to stop thinking about it.

A bloke on TikTok, known on the platform as @kenshawn.caraballo, posted about their intended use and as a result, left thousands of people completely gobsmacked.

"I was today years old when I realised why crackers have ridges on them," he says at the start of the short clip.

He then demonstrates how to make full use of the ridges.

In the video, he can be seen rolling the jagged edge of the cracker over a piece of cheese to effectively slice it.

This way you have a perfect sized piece of cheese to fit the cracker - and you save on washing up.

Since being posted, the video has racked up thousands of likes and hundreds of comments from people who were in awe of the revelation.

One person wrote: "Never knew this."

A second person commented: "Well now I know this. Thank you."

A third simply said they were: "Mind blown".

But someone else claimed this wasn't news to them, saying: "I've always done this…"

Far more than a simple TikTok theory, Ritz themselves confirmed the snack's clever function in their own video on the platform, which made people question their 'entire existence'.

This isn't the only fact that people have learned from TikTok recently.

One man went viral on the social media platform after he shared an "extra use" for door springs.

They demonstrated the hack in a video on their account, which was captioned: "From doorstopper to doorkeeper."

They said if you need your door to stay open, and you have one of these springs on the wall behind it, simply bend the stopper down, open the door fully over the top, then release.

The stopper at the end will stop the door from closing.

Elsewhere in the world of new-found food revelations, others have just discovered that you're actually allowed to take your own food into the cinema.

Both Cineworld and Vue confirmed that bringing your own snacks is permitted, but there are certain rules around smelly foods or hot treats.
