Pentagon retweets post calling on Trump to resign from office then quickly deletes it

The Pentagon's official Twitter account retweeted a post Thursday calling on President Donald Trump to resign from office.

The tweet posted by user @ProudResister on Thursday read: "The solution is simple ... Roy Moore: Step down from the race. Al Franken: Resign from Congress.

"Donald Trump: Resign from the presidency. GOP: Stop making sexual assault a partisan issue. It's a crime as is your hypocrisy," the post concluded.

The U.S. Department of Defense's account retweeted the post before quickly deleting it. The account has more than 5 million followers.

Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White addressed the issue via Twitter.

"An authorized operator of the @DeptofDefense's official Twitter site erroneously retweeted content that would not be endorsed by the Department of Defense," she wrote. "The operator caught this error and immediately deleted it."
