Pensioner vanishes from home prompting urgent appeal

A pensioner with dementia is at the centre of an urgent police search after vanishing from his Merseyside home.

Police issued a picture of Richard Smith, 88, who has gone missing from St Helens .

Merseyside Police said Mr Smith, who has dementia, was last seen in Cranshaw Avenue, Clock Face at around 12.30pm yesterday, Monday, September 2.

And today they turned to the public as apart of their efforts to trace Mr Smith who is known to visit Liverpool city centre .

A police spokesman said: "Officers are becoming increasingly concerned for his whereabouts and anyone who has seen Richard or anyone fitting his description is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101."

He is described as 5ft 5in tall, of stocky build with grey hair.

When last seen he was wearing a black jacket, black trousers and a black cap with blue lining.
